What is art therapy?

ART + THERAPY combines both art-making and psychotherapy to help people explore the self. Art is a means and art materials are the mediums for the therapist to work with people to establish a relation between their inner and outer world.

Art therapy involves both aspects of a person because it is a process which offers the opportunities for them to connect their body, mind and spirit. The presentation on the artworks is the way for individuals to transform their personalities, values, beliefs, emotions, and unconscious thoughts.

Art therapy focuses on non-verbal communication, which benefits those who cannot speak or do not want to talk. Art therapists are often able to work with a variety of individuals, including children and people with special needs. Through the creation of art, individuals experience sensory-based expressions and a connection of body and mind.
